Devices need to recycle power when a LCD is replaced.

After replacing a device's LCD screen, it is often necessary to perform a "power cycle" (also known as a force reboot or hard reset) to ensure the device functions correctly. Easiest way to do this is disconnect the battery before replacing the LCD and reconnect after replacement. This practice applies to a wide range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops. 
While a simple power-off and power-on may be sufficient, a force reboot is often more thorough for clearing any temporary issues caused by the new hardware. 
Why power cycling is important after a screen replacement
  • Initial hardware recognition: The device's software needs to properly recognise the newly installed LCD. A forced reboot allows the operating system to establish a clean connection with the new display and its components, like the touch sensor.
  • Clears temporary memory: The process clears the device's RAM (temporary memory). If a software glitch occurred during the repair, a power cycle can resolve it by wiping the slate clean and forcing a fresh start.
  • Fixes loose connections: In some cases, a device may not turn on or the screen may flicker after a DIY replacement. This can be caused by a display connector not being fully seated on the motherboard. A power cycle can sometimes fix the issue by forcing the system to re-read the hardware connections. If the problem persists, you will likely need to re-open the device and reseat the connectors.
  • Resolves software glitches: In rare cases, a new screen can cause software conflicts. A force reboot is often the first and most effective step to resolve issues like an unresponsive touch screen or screen flickering. 
How to power cycle different devices
For most smartphones (like Samsung or Google Pixel):
  1. Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button at the same time.
  2. Continue holding both buttons for 7 to 10 seconds.
  3. Release the buttons when the device vibrates and the logo appears on the screen. 
For most iPhones with a Home button (iPhone 6s/SE and older):
  1. Press and hold both the Home button and the Power button.
  2. Continue holding both buttons until the Apple logo appears. 
For most laptops:
  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Unplug the power adapter.
  3. Remove the battery if it is a user-removable battery.
  4. Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  5. Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then turn the laptop back on.
